"Bomber" Wins National Cup!

Sporting MCC rider, Tom “Bomber” Ovens, today returned from a triumphant win in the Australian Motocross National Cup series final held in Queensland.

Tom was crowned overall winner of the 6 round National Cup series at the final round, held in Coolum, Queensland, over the past weekend.

Riding his Peter Stevens 250cc Honda, Tom has travelled Australia competing in the development class of the Australian Motocross Championships over the last 4 months. Rounds of the championship were held in Adelaide, Conandale in QLD, Newcastle, Barrabool, Broadford and Coolum, QLD.

After winning round one in Adelaide, Tom was never headed in the points chase, and ended with a 38 point lead at series end in Coolum.

When questioned on the weekend’s racing, Tom said, "Going into the final round I didn’t want to make any mistakes as I knew I only needed a few more points to win. I rode a bit tight in the first moto, only getting 7th place, but that was enough to clinch the championship. So in the second moto, the pressure was off, and I could have a lot more fun!" Tom came second in the final moto.

In winning the National Cup, Tom is now seeded directly into the National top 40 riders who will compete in the Pro-Lites class MX Nationals championship next year.

Tom would like to thank Peter Stevens Honda for their generous support. Oh, and his Dad!
