Results Continue For Sporting Riders At Nokia Nationals
National Cup
Success continues for Tom "Bomber" Ovens, Cody Cooper and Troy "Dozza" Dorron following triumphant rides for all 3
Sporting MCC members at Rnd 8 of the Nokia MX Nationals.
After leading the National Cup for the entire series, Tom (Peter Stevens Honda), now heads into the final round at
Coolum QLD with an enviable 24 point lead. Two solid 2nd place finishes were enough to secure the overall win, Tom's
game plan being to stay out of trouble after separating his shoulder several weeks ago.
A good start in moto 1 put Tom in 2nd place at race end, behind Mark Grove. Another good start in race 2 was thwarted
in turn one when an inside rider crashed, causing Tom to take evasive action and not run over the riders head! A
strong ride from midpack to second place capped off another consistent ride, with the reward of being overall winner.

After a start to finish win in moto 1, series 2nd place rider, Mark Grove lost his chance of snaring the championship
lead after a spectacular crash in Moto 2!
Grove struck trouble whilst negotiating a challenging set of stutters leading up to the big tabletop jump.
Unintentionally gassing off the upramp with the throttle pinned, Grove unfortunately launched into a N.A.S.A.
inspired maneuver, that made Evil Kneivel look like a weevil! Sadly, Mark suffered a broken forearm and we wish
him a speedy recovery.
Riders were greeted on arrival with the pleasing sight of a much revamped circuit at Broadford! Hundreds of tons of
top soil has been trucked in to cover the infamous stoney shale dirt Broadford is known for. Added track features of
uphill doubles, rythym section and stutters were also in place for the MX Nationals Championships. The circuit now
boasts a new sprinkler system which simulates a downpour in the tropics, it's a pity the temperature simulated weather
in the Antarctic!
National Cup final round is at Coolumn, QLD on July 23.
Pro-Lites
"Dozza", riding for Team No Fear Honda, has caught up some valuable points after his Toowoomba twist of fate.
A close battle with Cameron Taylor in the first moto saw Taylor finishing 1st. with Dozza coming in a close 2nd.
Troy made amends in the second moto, showing a clean pair of wheels to rest of the field.
Pro-Open
Cody Cooper won his first race with a huge 40 second lead in Pro Open, but didn't have the same success in the second
race. After coming back from a crash in his second race he rode hard to claim 3rd, giving him first place overall
for the day. He has now moved up to 3rd place in the series points.
