Well folks, we finally got into the paper but not what we expected. Our you-beaut photo we all posed for at Rnd 2
clubday didn’t get printed (yet!), but a story did appear in Tuesday June 10 Addy, albeit nothing like we had
written! The story did promote our Junior Development Team though which was good. How do you think it came across?

At Last! The Wall Is Finished!
Welcome to the NEW 'Big Picture' Wall! After more than 12 months of trying to turn an idea into reality, the
original concept of the Wall has finally been realised!
Now you can see the whole Wall at once, roam over it with your cursor to see tile sponsors and their wellwish
messages, and check out our corporate sponsors and more. There are lots of new features in the navigation buttons,
which make the Big Picture Wall more of a site of interest so you have reason to drop in every once in a while.
It has been a long hard road getting here, in our wake we have left a long trail of web designers and IT programmers,
having even been told that creating the Wall was impossible because it "is beyond current technologies". Sometimes
"impossible" just means trying a bit harder!
Sure, there may be a few more things we could do to make it more professional, but we have to remember we are a club,
trying to get a job done on a shoestring budget. We have already had to tie together a few more shoestrings to get
this job done!
The job was to create a tool, The 'Big Picture' Wall, as a way for all people to help us Save Barrabool, and now the
job is done. Now it is up to you, the people, to show you want to help.
We have a way to go yet, but don't be discouraged, the big push starts now! Our fundraising from the Wall to date is
now over well $100,000 in tiles and pledges in just 12 months, which is a fantastic fundraising effort for a
volunteer club! The simple truth is if we get the cash from selling all 10,000 tiles on the Wall, then Barrabool
is saved forever!
Take some time to look at the new features, like 'Pledges'. Now you can pledge to tiles and keep your money till we
actually need to ask you for it to pay for the land ($550 minimum), so if you are feeling a little uneasy about
spending, this one is for you! Have a look to see how you can get great deals on memberships and lifetime passes.
Check out our sponsor lists too. Here you can see names of all the people who have helped so far. Remember, one day
not too far away, this Wall will be built at the track when we have saved it, and all these names will be up there
for all to see.
Of course, the unthinkable may happen, as there is a slim chance that we may not be able to raise the necessary funds
to save McAdam Park, Barrabool from extinction! Have you actually thought how bad that would be for our sport???? Now
here's the moment of truth; That possibility will be made far greater if people do not commit to do the small act of
giving. That is all it will take to save this great facility for us all! Can you live with that on your conscience?
To Motorcycle fans, racers, ex racers, M/C industry companies and their employees, webmasters, photographers, M/C
shops etc., and anybody who does not think it a good idea to stand back and watch a National Motocross icon track go
to the grave yard, please don't be conspicuous by your absence from the Wall! Be a part of history, Go buy a tile now!
Yours in motorcycling,
Peter Ovens

Western Region MX A Roaring Success!
Round 2 of the Western Region Motocross Championships, held last Sunday at Barrabool, has been declared a winner!
After much concern surrounding potential dust problems and water availability, all worries subsided on race morning
once the bikes hit the track!
All the planning and hard work paid off, as the riders were treated to one of the best prepped tracks at Barrabool
in a long time!
15 semi loads of water were trucked in, (topped up with a few millimetres of rain on Saturday) helping make for one
ripper of a track! This, combined with the hard working track crew trying out their new toys (namely a new power
harrow and a supa doopa sawdust scooper!) helped make easy?? work of pulling the track into shape for a hard days
racing! Congrats to everyone who helped with the track. The resurrected Barrabool “Moto loam” made a nice change
from weeks gone by!
With well over 300 entries taken, the Barrabool round was again one of the biggest of the series. Well done to Alex
for taking on the task of race secretary, doing all the entries and getting the program organised. Credits also to
"family Red" in the canteen for all the nice tucker; and another big effort!
Believe it or not, prior to the event, there was some flak being thrown around about us asking for $5 to help out
with the cost of water cartage (which cost the club $2000!), but in the end most people were more than happy to have
a dust free track to ride. Without sponsorship, that amount of water would cost $6000!! This was a good example of
when everyone chips in a little, the problem can be solved.
To everyone else, congratulations; a job well done! Keep an eye on the Motorcycling Victoria
website for the race results.

Bomber's Setback!
S.M.C.C. member and 2006 National Cup winner Tom 'Bomber' Ovens, has been ruled out of this years Pro-Lites
championship after a knee injury sustained during a training ride recently.
At the time of the accident Tom thought he had simply "tweaked" his knee, but scans and visits to his surgeon
yesterday revealed that he will require reconstructive surgery to repair a torn ACL and ruptured meniscus in his
right knee. No crash was involved, just a simple bump to the knee whilst sliding his foot around a turn.
Needless to say Tom is devastated with the news as he was keenly looking forward to competing in this years Pro-Lites
Championship. "Last year in the National Cup was the best year of my career so far, and I had been feeling really
good in my training in the lead up to this years season. To now not be able to race is very hard to take" he said.
"My plan now is to work hard on my rehab and get back to race fitness as soon as possible for the end of year races."
Tom would like to thank his sponsors;
Peter Stevens Honda Geelong / Lifeline Financial Services / Fox / Oakley /
GT bicycles / Pro-Circuit / Dunlop / 100% MX / Storm and Chad’s Off Road Set-Ups for their great ongoing support.

Save Barrabool Campaign Update
BARRABOOL LIVES ON! (for now)
The fate of McAdam Park Motorcycle complex was in the lap of the gods in recent weeks whilst negotiations for the
sale of McAdam Park proceeded. Having put in a bid themselves, these were nervous times indeed for the Sporting
Motor Cycle Club. Fortunately for the Sporting MCC, the recent impending sale of part 1 of McAdam Park did not
attract any outside bidders by the December deadline.

Save Barrabool Campaign Update
The Good, the Bad, the Ugly.
Will there be a 2007 for SMCC at Barrabool?
Lets start with the Good; YES!!! Sporting MCC has secured another 12 months use of McAdam Park! After a nail biting few weeks of uncertainty, our future is secured for another year!
The Bad; Unfortunately the Clubs offer to buy the land has had to be withdrawn after hoped for finance did not occur.
The Ugly; No ugly! This could have been the ugly, as it would have left the door open for others to buy the land out from under us!
Fortunately this did not occur as there were no other serious bids!

"Save Barrabool" Riding School - Thanks Tom & Mark!
SMCC Club coaches, Tom Ovens and Mark Willingham just completed a very successful riding school where everyone was a
winner!
Tom and Mark very generously donated the takings to the "BIG PICTURE" Wall, giving SMCC another boost of cash and
enthusiasm in our efforts to save McAdam Park. They were ably assisted by Alex Dunscombe, another of our club coaches,
who is well known around the club.
All riders were rapt with the professional tuition they received from the guys, many of them also racking up the 5
hours coaching they need to upgrade their MA racing licenses.
Thanks Tom, Mark and Alex! Your tiles are in area 3 on the Big Picture Wall.
