Future Of Popular Motorcycle Complex Secured
Below is the press release from the Minister for Sport and Recreation
Surf Coast's McAdam Park Motorcycling Complex will continue to be an important sporting facility for many years to
come after the Minister for Sport James Merlino announced the Brumby Labor Government would commit $1.27 million to
the project.
Mr Merlino said McAdam Park was a renowned international and national motorcycling facility and the Victorian
Government was proud of its involvement to keep it that way.
"I'm pleased to be here today to confirm an overall Victorian Government commitment of $1.27 million to secure the
future of this terrific sporting facility," Mr Merlino said.
"Our Government is proud to support this project and delighted that Surf Coast Shire, the City of Greater Geelong,
Motorcycle Australia and various motorcycle clubs have also committed funding towards the acquisition of McAdam Park."
Mr Merlino said securing the funding for the site was an important first step, and the Government would continue
working with all parties in the months ahead to ensure the long-term sustainability of the facility.
"There's no doubt this is an important community asset and the Victorian Government is delighted to play a leading
role in helping to secure its future for the people of Geelong," he said.
Member for South Barwon Michael Crutchfield said McAdam Park hosted international, national and state motorcycling
events, which help to deliver significant economic benefits to the region.
"As well as a venue for major and community events, McAdam Park also offers new or young motorcycle riders with a safe
place to enjoy the sport they love," Mr Crutchfield said.
"McAdam Park also plays an important role in helping these riders to gain the necessary skills associated with riding
recreational motorcycles in a safe and socially responsible way.
"Our Government will now work with all the parties concerned to ensure the long-term sustainability of the facility.
"The campaign to save McAdam Park has involved not only this government, councils, clubs, and the wider community,
but also many local businesses who have financially supported this venue through fundraising activities and they
should all be congratulated."

New Flag Marshalling System For Club Days - Please Read!
This year will see a revolution in the way flag marshalling at Club days is done! The never ending chore / problem
of finding enough flaggies, is over! We hope!!
For 2007 S.M.C.C. will be trialling a new system, dropping the old system of each rider having to flag marshal for
one entire day of the championships.
The new system will allow each rider to ride every one of the 6 Club Championship club days. Riders (or parents) are
now required to do flag marshal duties for only 3 separate 1 and a half hour stints spread throughout the year! Not much eh?
As usual there will be 3 rounds of racing on the day. At sign in, riders will nominate which of the 3 rounds of racing on the day they
will flag marshal.
Riders have the liberty of nominating a friend to do their flag duty, or doing it themselves.
If the rider does the flag duty for his/her nominated round, then he/she will be given points for the missing race
equal to his/her best result on the day, in that class. For example; if you place 7th. and 3rd. in your two races,
you will be awarded points for 7th, 3rd, and 3rd. on the day.
If you ride multiple classes, the same rule applies. This should be a fair system and still enables the rider to
accrue championship points for each and every race.
All riders get to do practice. The club will source other volunteers at riders briefing to help for the 40 mins. or so
of practice.
To be counted in the Championship overall points score, riders will need to have worked for 50% of their races
entered, or 3 stints of flag marshalling duties throughout the year. The system is flexible, as it also allows the
rider to work a full day (3 stints) all at once if they wish, e.g. if they are injured.
As was previous years, riders worst Club Day score for the year is dropped. Only the best 5 of 6 count toward the
Championship.
After each round of racing there will be a 5 minute break to enable changeover of flaggies and P.A. announcements etc.
Of course riders or parents can also elect to do other jobs such as Starter, Finisher, Watering etc.
So that's it in a (big) nutshell! Here's to hassle free Clubdays!
